Leading Teams 2022

The Leading Teams 2022 will be conducted at Warrandyte Park on the 19th and 21st October 2021
Trials will be held for the following age group:
U9 in 2022 (currently U8)
U11 in 2022 (currently U10)
U13 in 2022 (currently U12)
U14 in 2022 (currently U13)
U15 in 2022 (currently U14)
All players are allowed to trial one team up. (ie player currently playing for U13 team this year, will be able normally trialing for U14 but is allowed to trial for U15)
A player can only try out for one team.
If selected, a player is expected to attend a minimum of 75 % of training and games.
The creation of a leading team, will be based on the following criteria:
Basis of the technical skills is the Football West Junior requirement as presented in the : “Football West Skills Training and Game Training coaching course”
Basic skills such as First Touch- Positioning – Passing and the ability to “read and understand the game” are being taught and mastered throughout the training and exercised in a game setting. (all depending on age)
Game mentality/motivation:
Children who are intrinsically motivated to strive and do well for the team and themselves.
They, whilst discovering their desired position within the team understand that success within the team comes from participation and the sharing of success.
A “leading team” would consist of:

Please be advised that the committee will send out the outcome of the trials after they have taken place but will NOT DISCUSS any outcomes with any players/parents/caretakers.
Children unsuccessful for the leading team can of course register for one of the other teams in the same age group.

- They can control the ball and remain calm when under pressure
- Have a decent understanding of the position they are playing during training and games and do understand the requirements of that position
- Have the ability to pass the ball effectively to a team mate in their team
- Those who have the mental and physical fitness to work during the training and game time
- Those who have a strong desire to personally do well and internally motivated to perform to the best of their abilities
- Those who have a solid understanding and regularly display what it means to be “part of a team”
- Those who listen and are able to follow instructions
- Those who demonstrate an ability to comply with the Football West and WCFC codes of conduct whilst participating in a more competitive environment
